             abstract = "The multitemporal monitoring of land use in the Amazon basin, its 
                         relationship with the other components of the environment, society 
                         and the economy is a critical issue for the development of Brazil. 
                         The purpose of this study was to analyze changes in land use in 
                         the area of influence of the BR-163 highway in the 
                         Cuiab{\'a}-Santar{\'e}m stretch, that is comprising an extension 
                         of almost 1,800 km. It was adopted as an area of influence an zone 
                         of 100 km around of the BR-163, that provided a study area with 
                         approximately 362,975.2 km2. It were used information about land 
                         use and ocupation of the TerraClass project for the years 2004, 
                         2010 and 2014 as temporal data source. In addition, land use 
                         classes were associated with the presence of Heat, thereby 
                         obtaining the effects of burning as a soil-modifying agent. The 
                         results showed that the changes in the primary vegetation cover is 
                         associated to agriculture and cattle raising, using the burning, 
                         to clean the area. It was con-cluded that the activities employed, 
                         despite the decrease in some degree of the pace, continue to 
                         advance to-wards the area that should be protected in the 
                         Amazon.",
